Beach Street - Huskisson - Footpath (near Holiday Haven White Sands)

The Shoalhaven was declared a Natural Disaster Area 5 March 2022 after an East Coast Low and subsequent rain events. The shared user path footbridge in Beach Street, Huskisson (near Holiday Haven White Sands) incurred extensive damage to the bridge piles. Council considers this damage a high priority and is planning to repair the damage as soon as possible via Natural Disaster Funding.

10/01/2024 - Work on the shared user path footbridge was completed on schedule and is now open to the public. Council thanks you for your patience during this time.

2023 Works history

  • 15/11/2023 – Work commenced on the footbridge today with an expected completion date of Friday 22 December, weather permitting. During this time the shared user path adjacent to Holiday Haven White Sands will be closed to all users, with a detour in place along Fegen and Nowra Streets. In addition, the eastern gate to the park will not be accessible for the duration of the works.
  • 01/11/2023 – A contractor has been appointed and work is due to commence 15 November with a completion date of 22 December, weather permitting. During this time the shared user path adjacent to Holiday Haven White Sands will be closed to all users, with a detour in place along Fegen and Nowra Streets. In addition, the eastern gate to the park will not be accessible for the duration of the works.
  • 18/09/2023 - Council issued a tender to market in early September 2023 with contracts to be awarded in late October. Works will be conducted outside peak holiday periods, depending on contractor availability.
  • 07/06/2023 - A structural assessment of the damage has been completed and Council is preparing documentation for a tender to be issued to the market.
  • 23/03/2023 - Following the results of the geotechnical report and due to the poor conditions in the existing subsurface, a Structural Engineer has been engaged and is currently preparing a design for the footing repairs of the pedestrian bridge. Council is monitoring the site with a weekly inspection.  Temporary repairs have been undertaken to open the bridge to pedestrians.

 

2022 Works history

  • 12/09/2022 - A site inspection has shown the damage to the structure and surface under the bridge is significant and beyond Council’s internal capacity for rectification.
  • A site meeting with external experts is being arranged to determine the extent of rectification works required. The meeting should take place week ending 16 September and an update will be given after the meeting.
  • 6/09/2022 - The shared user path bridge alongside Holiday Haven White Sands is closed due to damages that occurred in the June/July severe weather event. Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to follow the detour signs around the site via Fegen St and Nowra St.
