CCTV safety cameras

Shoalhaven City Council has installed 18 Closed Circuit Television cameras (CCTV) in Nowra Central Business District (CBD).

The cameras transmit video footage and images to a central location and have been installed following concerns about the level of street crime in the area.  

CCTV cameras assist us to work with Police to help provide a safer environment by:

  • Reducing crime levels by deterring potential offenders
  • Reducing anti-social behaviour
  • Aiding crime detection
  • Aiding apprehension of offenders
  • Reducing fear of crime
  • Helping secure a safer environment for those people who live, work and visit Nowra’s CBD

What happens with CCTV footage?

The recorded images will only be used and/or disclosed for law enforcement or other lawful purposes. All recorded images that are not part of any ongoing police investigation or court proceeding, or not required for any other lawful reason, will be deleted after approximately 30 days.

Installing CCTV cameras aims to prevent crimes including:

  • Assault
  • Assault occasioning grievous bodily harm
  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
  • Sexual Assault 
  • Aggravated sexual assault
  • Stealing motor vehicles
  • Stealing from motor vehicles
  • Other stealing
  • Break and enter
  • Malicious damage to property
  • Dealing/trafficking in drugs
