Carters Road - Barrengarry - Culvert & Landslip Repair

The Shoalhaven was declared a Natural Disaster Area 5 March 2022 after an East Coast Low and subsequent rain events. This had a major impact on our communities, causing rapid deterioration to roads and landslips. Carters Road, Barrengarry, was severely impacted by these rain events resulting in planned culvert and landslip repair works.

07/12/2023 - Council’s contractor is planning on carrying rectification works to the pavement and embankment commencing from Monday 11/12/2023. Works will be carried out under traffic control.

About the works

Pothole filled with water on road and safety devices blocking side of the road.     Road has cracked and a sinkhole remains on Carters Road.

21/11/2023 - Carters Road gabion retaining wall and pipe replacement works are now complete.

2023 Works history

01/11/2023 - Works to complete the pipe culvert and construct a retaining wall are nearing completion. 

Final restoration works are being carried out over the next week.

21/09/2023 - Works to replace the pipe culvert and construct a retaining wall is progressing and is expected to take six (6) weeks to complete. A temporary side road has been constructed to allow traffic around the site.

29/08/2023 - Council has awarded the works. Council's contractor is planning to begin works from 4 September 2023. The works to replace the pipe culvert and construct a retaining wall is expected to take 6 weeks to complete. A temporary side road will be constructed to allow traffic around the site.

28/07/2023 - Works have been Tendered to replace the failed pipe culvert and construct a gabion outlet structure. Construction will commence once the successful contractor is awarded the works.

07/06/2023 - The works for replacing the failed pipe culvert and constructing a gabion outlet structure have been tendered. Once the tender process has been finalised, construction will commence.

16/05/2023 - A design to replace the failed pipe culverts and construct a gabion outlet structure have been approved by Transport NSW. Staff are currently preparing documentation to Tender the works for construction.

02/03/2023 - Further investigations of the site have been carried out and survey and design works are being undertaken for the repair works. Construction works will follow once the design is finalised and approved by Transport NSW.

19/01/2023 - Request for quotations to replace the failed pipe culvert have been sent. Works will be carried out following assessment of quotations.

 

2022 Works history

23/12/2022 - Request for quotations to replace the failed pipe culvert will be sent out in early January 2023.

22/10/2022 - A project to replace the failed pipe culvert has been submitted for funding approval. It is expected works will be carried out internally using Council's construction crew late November 2022 once approved.

02/09/2022 - A Geotechnical engineer contractor has been engaged to investigate the current landslip on the road.
