The latest

Work on the $32.8M Far North Collector Road network project has progressed well, with the main alignment completed in Dec 2023. Work on the Moss Vale Road Roundabout has accelerated now with the entire of the northern Lane completed, opening up work space to complete the southern lane. The Road is forecast to be opened before the end of June 2024

About the project

Background

The project is an integral component of the overarching “Preferred Road Network” adopted with the Nowra Bomaderry Structure Plan.

The Far North Collector Road project has been divided into 4 stages:

  • Stage 1: Illaroo Road Roundabout (completed in March 2021)
  • Stage 2: Moss Vale Road intersection with Far North Collector Road (forecast completion June 2024)
  • Stage 3: The connection between Illaroo Road and Moss Vale Road with a connection to Taylors Lane (Completed December 2023, not open to traffic)
  • Stage 4: Connection to Taylors Lane

The construction contract for Stages 2 and 3 was awarded in March 2022 to Cleary Bros with construction of stage 3 commencing in May 2022 with Stage 2 commencing in November 2022. Stage 3 is due for completion by the end of 2023, and Stage 2 being the Moss Vale road roundabout is due for completion in Q2 2024.The road will not be open until the Moss Vale road roundabout is completed.

Naming of the Far North Collector has progressed with the proposed name 'Bannada Way' being endorsed by the Nowra Local Aboriginal Land Council, and Council. The word Bannada is southern Dharrawal for the Bomaderry Creek or Running Water.

Council has endorsed a new alignment of Taylor's lane which coincides with the proposed adjacent development, this looks to retain the trees on the current Taylor's lane alignment. This connection will not be constructed as part of these works.

This project is 100 percent Federally funded.

Upcoming Works

In the coming weeks, the southern lane of Moss Vale road will be reconstructed and the roundabout construction will commence. Other notable items will be the installation of street lighting and the energisation works associated. Taylor's lane will be permanently closed to Moss Vale Road as required by TfNSW approvals. Access to the eastern end of Taylors Lane will be through Bannada Way.
