Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2025-26

Overview

Council’s inaugural Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) was endorsed by Council at its Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday 25 March 2025.

The plan sets out Council’s commitments and 49 targeted actions to strengthen relationships, demonstrate respect and provide opportunities for Council to work more collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The RAP Yarning Group and RAP Working Group provided invaluable insight and feedback during the development of the RAP and will continue to assist Council in implementing the plan.

The document was formally endorsed by Reconciliation Australia, the country’s lead body for reconciliation, in February 2025.

Elders and First Nations community representatives were invited to attend an event organised by Council to officially launch the RAP on Wednesday 28 May 2025 at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery in Nowra.

The plan will be due to be updated in September 2026.

RAP Artwork

Art is a dominant feature of the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

Local Aboriginal visual artist Jaz Corr brought her artistic vision to life with a communal painting titled ‘Woven’.

Ms Corr held workshops across the region to produce the artwork which now serves as a powerful symbol of Aboriginal identity.

Elder’s stories

During development of the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), the RAP Yarning Group recorded the stories of local Aboriginal Elders on NAIDOC Day 2024.

Their abridged transcripts have been shared in the RAP document.

The full audio recordings are available for listening through the South Coast Cooperative Libraries catalogue and have been linked below.
