About the project

The project involves the replacement of the existing boardwalk, including demolition, construction, and associated concrete works.

The boardwalk project commenced in 2022 with the removal of the existing dilapidated access boardwalk which had come to end of life.

Due to unforeseen, prolonged weather events, extended material lead times and site conditions necessitating design adjustments, the project has experienced significant delays. It is now anticipated the project will be open to the public by December 2023 and will provide wheelchair accessible access into this much loved reserve which will compliment other accessible features including amenities, BBQs and other park infrastructure.

During this time vehicle access to the reserve will remain unrestricted, however pedestrian access to the reserve, in close proximity to the construction site, will be closed. Pedestrians are advised to access the reserve via the walkway between 216-218 Greville Avenue Sanctuary Point (please see the image below). Council has provided directional signage indicating alternative pedestrian access to the reserve.

The new accessible boardwalk has been jointly funded by Council and a grant from the Australian Government - Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund.
