The community is invited to have their say on the construction of four proposed raised pedestrian crossings on Owen Street and Hawke Street in Huskisson.

Thanks to funding under the Get NSW Active program, Council is in the design phase of the project which aims to improve the safety and movement of pedestrians on this busy stretch of Huskisson Village.

Deputy Mayor Peter Wilkins said Transport for NSW’s grant aims to encourage walking and bike riding in regional NSW, with the new raised pedestrian crossings providing greater pedestrian connectivity while minimising impact on vehicle access and parking.

“If you live, work or play around Huskisson village we want to hear what you think of the four proposed raised pedestrian crossings,” Cr Wilkins said.

“It’s critical our townships foster safe pedestrian access that encourages people to walk or ride instead of drive for short trips,” he said.

“Our engineers have proposed locations and designs for the crossings that not only provide pedestrian priority crossing points, but they will have minimal impact to car access, parking and businesses in the area.”

The proposed project consists of:

  • Four raised ‘wombat’ pedestrian crossings, 3m – 4m wide
  • Upgraded lighting to suit the crossings
  • Kerb and gutter and drainage Landscaping to encourage pedestrian directional movement while improving the aesthetics of the crossings
  • New parking along Hawke Street to off-set parking spaces lost at crossings.

The community is invited to go to Council’s Get Involved platform to view the concept design proposal of the crossings.

Locations include two mid-block crossings along Owen Street, one on Currambene Street at the intersection with Owen Street, and one on Hawke Street.  The survey closes on Friday 20 June 2025.
