Shoalhaven City Council has completed stage one works on the St Georges Basin sporting field project.
The works comprise the construction of a new football field, floodlighting system, car park, fencing, irrigation system and landscaping.
In addition to these works, a new entry/exit has been formed along Wool Road while the pre-existing entry point off Panorama Road has been closed to traffic.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Paul Green welcomed the opening of the $827,000 facilities saying the new sporting fields would be a major coup for local residents.
“Set in a beautiful location, I’m sure these new state of the art facilities will be extremely well utilised by the local St Georges Basin community,” said Clr Green.
“The new sporting grounds will provide high quality recreation facilities for the residents of St Georges Basin and ensure plenty of open space for local sporting activities.
“Further to this, the new sporting field will compliment other sporting facilities in the area, all of which will be subject to future upgrades in accordance with Council’s Site Masterplan.
Local contractor, Digging Around completed the project with the assistance of local subcontractors while Council’s Project Delivery Section managed the project.
Council is currently preparing design detail for stage two works.
