Culburra Beach and Orient Point – stormwater drain maintenance

As of May 2025, Council will conduct quarterly maintenance of open stormwater drains in Culburra Beach and Orient Point to improve drainage.

Council has adjusted its maintenance schedule to quarterly to improve drainage during heavy rainfall.

The schedule is for open drain maintenance.

The map below indicates the open, deeper drains which collect water from various smaller surface and table drains.

About the works

Previously cleared annually, the drains will now be cleared four times a year to ensure consistent water flow. Inspections of underground pipes will also be brought forward to detect structural issues early.

Why can’t I see my drain?

This is a schedule for open drain maintenance indicated on the map. Open drains (example below) are the deeper dug out drains which collect water from various smaller surface and table drains. This schedule is only for open drains, if you think we have missed an open drain let us know by sending an email.

Why haven’t you dug my open drain out?

Council inspects the network of open drains quarterly, during this inspection required works will be determined and programmed, the work required may involve:

  • Excavating the open drain to remove debris
  • Slashing the open drain to reduce vegetation
  • Spraying the open drain to control vegetation
  • Removing foreign objects from open drains
  • No maintenance required, continue to monitor
