The community are invited to have their say about proposed actions developed to address the key risks, vulnerabilities and opportunities identified to improve the health and safety of for four estuaries within the Shoalhaven.

The Coastal Management Program (CMP) for St Georges Basin, Sussex Inlet, Berrara Creek and Swan Lake is being developed in consultation with the community and government agencies to set the long-term strategy for the management of the coastal zone.

“Here in the Shoalhaven, we get to live and play along one of the most pristine coastlines in the world and we need to do our part to protect it,” said Mayor Amanda Findley.

“Local communities are familiar with these places and best placed to provide feedback on ways to manage and preserve them for the future,” Clr Findley said.

This is the third stage of the CMP development which includes findings from technical studies and community feedback already gathered through consultation held in March 2022 to respond to identified vulnerabilities and risks in the area.

The proposed management actions have been developed around six key themes including foreshore erosion, the ecological environment, cultural and social, inundation and sea-level rise, boating and navigation, and water quality.

Information gathered will help to determine the level of community and government support for the proposed management actions and used to develop the final Coastal Management Program in Stage 4.

Financial and technical support for this project is being provided by the NSW Government through its Coastal and Estuaries Grants Program.

Information on the proposed management actions is available for feedback through the Online Survey until 21 July 2023.
