October is Motorcycle Awareness Month, and to encourage safer motorcycle use in the Shoalhaven, Shoalhaven City Council together with Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and Stay Upright Motorcycle Training are running a subsidised training session on motorcycle safety.
Between 2014 and 2018 there were 165 motorcycle crashes in the Shoalhaven area, resulting in 184 casualties including eight fatalities. Motorcycle Awareness Month aims to encourages drivers and other road users to be aware and mindful of motorcycles on the road.
Taking place on Friday, 16 October, the course has two sessions available at 8am-11am and 1pm-4pm. The course will cover a range of motorcycle safety topics to encourage a smoother transition for learner riders and valuable safety practices for experienced riders.
Mayor Amanda Findley encouraged new and experienced riders to enrol in the session to take place at Bomaderry on October 16.
“Stay Upright sessions are not only full of fun, but also improve on the physical and mental skills you picked up while earning your L Plates. The course is jam packed with information, making the transition to a P plate rider that much easier,” Mayor Findley said.
To celebrate Motorcycle Awareness Month, the course duration has increased from 2 hours to a 3 hour course, providing further value for attendees. Wayne Clarke, Stay Upright National Training Manager and Multiple Australian Champion will run the course.
“The course is a step beyond the pre-learner license course, offering quality seat time under the careful guidance of experienced coaches. I would encourage all Shoalhaven motorcyclists to take the course to increase safer driving on our roads,” Mayor Findley said.
The session cost is usually $159 per person, however for Motorcycle Awareness month it has been subsidised to $79.50, with bike hire included in the fee however you are welcome to use your own.
The course is beneficial for all riders, and each session is limited to six participants, so be fast in securing your spot. Participants must have a Learners Permit to enrol in the session.
