Australia Day Community Event Expression of Interest

Partner with Shoalhaven City Council to deliver a significant Australia Day community event.

Shoalhaven City Council is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from community organisations interested in partnering to deliver a major Australia Day community event on 26 January 2027, with the possibility of an extension for 2028.

Australia Day provides an opportunity for communities to come together to reflect, respect and celebrate what it means to be Australian. In the Shoalhaven, celebrations have traditionally combined community entertainment and activities with important civic events, including the Australia Day Awards and Australian Citizenship Ceremony.

Council is seeking a capable and community-focused organisation to help deliver an inclusive, welcoming and engaging event that celebrates our community and showcases the best of the Shoalhaven.

Partnership opportunity

The successful organisation will partner with Council to deliver an event that:

  • Has broad appeal and attracts strong community participation
  • Provides a welcoming, inclusive and family-friendly atmosphere
  • Integrates the official Shoalhaven Australia Day Awards presentation
  • Hosts a formal Australian Citizenship Ceremony in line with required protocols
  • Celebrates local identity, community spirit and shared values

Council support

Shoalhaven City Council will work collaboratively with the successful organisation and provide support including:

  • Financial assistance to support delivery of the event
  • Assistance with grant applications and funding opportunities
  • Event planning guidance from Council's Events Team
  • Media and marketing support across Council channels
  • Coordination of the Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony
  • Advice regarding permits, approvals and compliance requirements
  • Official Australia Day branding and promotional materials

  • EOI closing date: 5:00pm, Thursday 30 July 2026
  • Successful applicants notified: By 13 August 2026
  • Event date: 26 January 2027

Steps to apply

Before you start

Before beginning your application, ensure you have the following information available:

  • Organisation name and contact details
  • A brief overview of your organisation and community involvement
  • A proposed event plan, including activities and event schedule
  • Details of previous experience delivering community or public events
  • Staffing and volunteer arrangements
  • A budget overview, including anticipated costs, in-kind contributions and any requested Council support
  • Risk management and safety considerations
  • Information about any permits, approvals or licences required for the proposed event

Complete the online Expression of Interest form and provide details about your proposed event.

Your event plan should include:

  • Event timing – proposed start and finish times and key program elements
  • Location details – the proposed venue and its suitability for the event
  • Activities – details of planned entertainment, attractions and community activities
  • Draft schedule – a simple run sheet outlining the flow of the event

Suggested activities may include community BBQs, local market stalls, live music, cultural activities, children's entertainment, community presentations and opportunities to showcase local organisations and services.

What happens next

After you submit your Expression of Interest:

  • Applications will be reviewed for completeness and eligibility.
  • Council may contact applicants if further information is required.
  • Eligible submissions will be assessed against the published selection criteria.
  • Assessment will consider event planning, feasibility, community benefit, inclusivity, budget considerations and ability to collaborate with Council.
  • Successful applicants will be notified by 13 August 2026.
