Wastewater infrastructure designed to service 3500 new houses in Nowra’s north is one step closer to completion following the commissioning of two pumping stations.

The wastewater project sees the construction of three pumping stations and sewer mains which transfers sewage from Illaroo Road to Bomaderry wastewater treatment plant for processing. The third and final pumping station and sewer mains will be commissioned in the coming months.

Shoalhaven Water Executive Manager, Rob Horner, said the team had reached a major milestone on the $25 million sewerage project which started in 2019 (design phase) and is due to be completed in mid-2024.

“This new infrastructure is critical to servicing Shoalhaven’s newest suburb of Badagarang and the thousands of residents this area will attract,” Mr Horner said.

“Once operational, the effluent collected will be transferred to our Bomaderry Wastewater Treatment Plant for processing," he said.

“As part of our wastewater recycling scheme, this treated water will be beneficially reused on local farms, sporting fields and golf courses.”

Mr Horner said the new suburb of Badagarang covered 425 hectares between Bomaderry and Cambewarra Village and this project will provide infrastructure to ensure efficient wastewater processing and clean fresh drinking water to the new housing development.

Running concurrently with the sewerage project, a $15 million water supply project will see high quality drinking water ready to be delivered to new homes as they are built. The project includes the construction of water mains, a new water pumping station on Illaroo Road, and a new reservoir in Reservoir Lane, Cambewarra.

The water project is also close to completion with testing and commissioning underway across the area.

Both projects were funded by Shoalhaven Water with around $5M in grant funding under the Housing Acceleration Fund.
