Work experience

Shoalhaven City Council hosts work experience participants from local high schools, TAFE, universities or labour market agencies. Work experience is a valuable way to get ‘hands on’ experience and exposure to real work and industry environments.

If there are no work experience placements advertised you can still express interest by completing and returning the Work Experience Expression of Interest Form.

Opportunities for work experience exist across a number of Council functions, including but not limited to:

  • construction and maintenance
  • tourism and information services
  • libraries
  • parks maintenance
  • mechanical services
  • information technology (hardware services)
  • welding and metalwork
  • electricity and communications
  • art galleries
  • animal shelter
  • aquatics
  • waste and recycling services

Please note: School students need to discuss their work experience plans with their Careers Advisor before applying. All students need to provide evidence they are covered by indemnity insurance.

How to apply

  • click 'Apply' on the work experience vacancy and register yourself as an applicant
  • once you have completed registering you will need to complete some questions and provide information that supports your application
  • applications must have a resume or supporting letter explaining what your skills/interests are and be lodged by the closing date

After the closing date, applications are sent to the Council area of interest for consideration and to be assessed.

During the assessment process you may be contacted to clarify information you have provided.

Once the supervisor has assessed your application, we will notify you by email of the placement outcome.
