The latest

All works were completed in November 2023 with the exception of the playground equipment in the central area. The playground equipment and softfall has now been fully installed bringing with it the completion of the project.

About the project

By supporting the local and regional economy Council is creating more jobs and a thriving local community.

We’re creating a hub for retail, hospitality (dining), entertainment and recreation. The project is being partially funded through the Federal Government's Building Better Regions Round 3 Infrastructure Program, and Shoalhaven City Council.

The upgrade includes:

  • a raised outdoor dining area
  • shade structures
  • improved car park of approximately 440m2 and associated access
  • amenity upgrade to create an aesthetically pleasing toilet block including two accessible toilets
  • landscaping including planting, irrigation, walling, steps, footpaths and paving with a nature-based theme reflecting the Jervis Bay aesthetic
  • installation of furniture including lighting, shelters, park seating, park picnic settings, bin enclosures and water station
  • a playground (coming in the new year) and water play area

Progress so far

  • tender issued September 2021
  • contract awarded March 2022
  • construction commenced April 2022
  • project completed May 2024

History

April 2023 - Following the opening of the northern car park before Xmas, works have been progressing on the plaza section of the mall with pavement works mostly complete, along with progress on the amenities building, shade sails and stage. Landscaping is progressing well and once handrails are installed in April more areas will be handed over providing extra areas for public use and improved access to shops.

Dec 23, 2022 - The northern carpark has opened for vehicles! The contractor, Jigins Civil, has worked hard to deliver the northern carpark for pedestrian and vehicles ahead of the busy holiday period. The carpark was asphalted on 21 December and temporary line marking sprayed down with final markings to be completed in the new year. The early new year will see works progress on the amenities and pathways.

Sep 2022 - We’ve had good feedback from the community on the project and have put the following into action:

  • An electronic message board is now in place, letting the public know that the shops remain open while works are under way. The messaging can be changed from time to time as the project progresses.  Check out the photo below.
  • Council has taken on the responsibility of performing daily cleans to the port-a-loos provided by the contractor to ensure these are kept to a higher standard of cleanliness.
