About the project

The heritage pavilion's external finishes have deteriorated over time, necessitating essential painting, maintenance, and restoration of the main pavilion's external walls in anticipation of the "150th Nowra Show" in 2024.

The exterior tasks encompass the following:

  • Painting the main pavilion.
  • Removing lead paint from the old window sills in the main pavilion.
  • Applying a salt extraction treatment to the existing external perimeter brickwork walls of the main pavilion.
  • Installing a damp proof course for the external perimeter brickwork walls of the main pavilion.
  • Painting the adjacent committee rooms and covered walkway.
  • Painting the roofs of the main pavilion and committee rooms.
  • Painting the lower oval retaining wall and fence.
  • Installing new external lighting.

The execution of the proposed tasks is deemed essential to rejuvenate the pavilion, ensuring it functions effectively and upholds its remarkable heritage significance. All planned activities align with the directives outlined in the Nowra Showground Conservation Management Plan (CMP), Nowra Showground Plan of Management & Nowra Showground Infrastructure External Paint Colour Palette & Finishes schedule. Funding for this project is allocated through the Council's General Fund budget for the year 2023/2024.

The works are expected to be completed by December 2023.
