Funding received to plan for future housing

Planning for the delivery of 500 homes in the Shoalhaven will be progressed after Council was awarded a $250,000 grant from the NSW Government.
Shoalhaven was one of 24 successful councils to receive funding under round three of the Government’s Regional Housing Strategic Planning Fund, on Thursday.
“I welcome this funding announcement from the NSW Government as it will allow us to plan for the delivery of much needed housing in our city,” said Mayor Patricia White.
“Funding through this program has already assisted Council to deliver its new Affordable Housing Strategy and this announcement will ensure we can continue making positive progress in addressing the housing needs in our region,” Cr White said.
The grant will support Council and its project partners to commence early planning work to help inform the renewal of government-owned housing stock in the southeastern part of Nowra.
The first step will be to look at demographics to identify what kind of housing is needed by the community and to build an understanding of the mix and supply of housing required in the future.
The project is being undertaken in collaboration with Homes NSW and Southern Cross Housing and will help deliver potentially 500 new dwellings for the city.
Council previously received a grant under round one of the program that is available for early planning work, to support development of the Shoalhaven Affordable Housing Strategy. The strategy was completed and endorsed by Council in August 2024.
