Local Government Week provides the opportunity to showcase how councils are more than just roads, rates and rubbish, but a reflection of the communities we serve.

Swim laps, have a barbeque, find a pet, see a concert, hit the skatepark, join a volunteer group, or bring your device in for some tech help – Shoalhaven Council is the hub of the community.

Mayor Amanda Findley said Local Government Week was a great time to put the spotlight on services that go beyond the ‘three Rs’.

“Council is run by local people, for local people, and we provide the community with wonderful amenities that enrich our lives,” said Cr Findley.

“Wander through our galleries, libraries, parks and gardens and you can’t help but be inspired by what’s on offer in the Shoalhaven,” she said.

Beyond the bushwalks and books, Council is promoting some of the free activities on offer throughout Local Government Week (Monday 31 July - Sunday 6 August).  These include:

  • Tech talks at Sanctuary Point, Ulladulla and Nowra libraries
  • Aqua aerobics classes at the Ulladulla Leisure Centre
  • Aqua aerobics classes and Box fit at the Bay & Basin Leisure Centre
  • A craft class at Nowra Library
  • Four brand new art exhibitions at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery in Nowra
  • Shoalhaven Water Open Day and Nowra Waste Treatment Plant tour for the whole family on Saturday 5 August (bookings a must).

Mayor Findley even suggested people come along to Monday evening’s Ordinary Meeting on 31 July to experience this important function of local government in the iconic retro chambers.
