Water Mains Replacement Project

Shoalhaven Water is working to renew, upgrade or replace a number of mains throughout the Shoalhaven over several years.

About the project

In 2020, Shoalhaven Water created a list of water and sewer mains that were at risk of breaking or reaching the end of their lifespan. The identified mains were prioritized based on their criticality, class, size, breakage history, and location.

By renewing, upgrading, or replacing these mains, Council expects a reduction in water main breakages, improved water pressure, and a more robust water distribution system.

The renewal, upgrading or replacement of these mains will be executed as distinct work packages over several years.

About the packages of works

Nine work elements are proposed to be executed within this package of works, across several suburbs. Read more about each package below.

Berry - Kangaroo Valley Rd water mains

Shoalhaven Water intends to upgrade the water mains to improve service and reduce risk of ongoing breakages.

These works involve the installation of approximately 2km of OD280 and approximately 1.6km of OD400 water mains.

Calalla Beach – King George Street

Shoalhaven Water intends to upgrade the water main to improve services and reduce risk of ongoing breakages.

These works involve the installation of approximately 418m of OD180 water main and approximately 778m of DN250 water main.

Kangaroo Valley - Reservoir duplication main

Shoalhaven Water intends to upgrade the water-main to improve service and reduce risk of ongoing breakages.

These works involve the installation of approximately 300 metres of new OD250 water main, and approximately 400 metres of OD315 water main.

Mayfield - Culburra Road water main

Shoalhaven Water intends to upgrade the water main to improve service and reduce risk of ongoing breakages.

The works entail the installation of approximately 2500 metres of new OD125 water main.

Sanctuary Point - Water mains

Shoalhaven Water intends to upgrade the water main to improve service and reduce risk of ongoing breakages.

These works involve the installation of approximately 1940 metres of new OD280 water main.

Milton/Woodstock – Woodstock Road

Shoalhaven Water intends to upgrade the water main to improve services and reduce risk of ongoing breakages.

These works involve the installation of approximately 3km of new OD125 water main

Progress so far

As part of the water mains replacement projects, Apperleys Lane, Ryans Lane, Illaroo Road, Albert Street, Croziers Road, Culburra Road, Callala Bay and Kangaroo Valley Reservoir works are now complete.

Sanctuary Point works are currently underway with anticipated completion in December 2025.

Milton/Woodstock – Currently in Tender phase, works to be awarded in late 2025.

Kangaroo Valley Road, Berry – Water Mains – Hitchcocks Lane to George Street – Currently in Tender phase. Works to be awarded late 2025.
