Site preparation is underway, and mapped foreshore techniques are now under review, with works to begin once contractors are confirmed.
About the project
Mavromattes Reserve is a popular riverside recreation area along the Shoalhaven River. The 850 m grassy reserve includes narrow riparian vegetation that’s actively eroding. Informal river access points have become degraded, and gabion mattresses near Ferry Lane are now exposed. The mown levee bank is at risk if erosion continues.
Project purpose
Council is planning foreshore protection works to:
- reduce erosion
- improve habitat for threatened species and ecological communities
- protect public access and amenity.
What’s happening
We’re seeking experienced contractors to deliver the following works:
- install bollards to create a 2–3 m riparian buffer/no-mow zone, with gaps for river access
- carry out weed control across the site
- revegetate the riparian zone with grasses and low shrubs
- install rock beaching at the eastern end to address erosion near the stormwater outlet and water access point
- trial a cobble beach to improve safety and amenity
- support mangrove establishment through planting or natural regeneration.
