May 2025 Update - Council have awarded the contract for the supply and installation of the aerator system.
About the project
Council is seeking to install four (4) of 3/4hp aerators and associated works for the Harry Sawkins Park Pond in Nowra. The project came about because of an increase in fish and bird mortality around the pond due to high levels of nutrients and algae in the water. To address this issue, Council is proposing to install four fountain-shaped aerators.
Beyond their visual appeal, fountains have a practical function, especially regarding ecosystem health. Oxygen is essential for fish, beneficial bacteria, and other pond organisms.
