Walking and cycling are popular activities across the Shoalhaven and South Coast. During peak periods, our popular pathways can become congested. To help promote the safe use of shared paths for both pedestrians and cyclists, Shoalhaven City Council have joined forces with Transport for New South Wales and neighbouring Local Government Areas (LGA’s) of Kiama, Shellharbour and Wollongong to encourage users to Share the Path.

Over the summer period, Share the Path corflute signs funded by Transport for NSW will be placed on popular paths throughout the Shoalhaven and participating LGA’s to serve as a reminder for all, so everyone can enjoy the shared user pathways.

Mayor Amanda Findley was happy to see the LGA’s working together to amplify the path safety message.

“The united approach to messaging for pathways provides a recognisable and consistent message across the four LGA’s when it comes to safe path sharing. The shared campaign will help to build awareness of cyclist and pedestrian safety and positively shape the culture of pathway use.

“Essentially, you need to be a courteous path user.  You can do this by keeping to the left; making sure people are aware of your presence; acting in a courteous and respectful way; moving off the path when stopped; supervising your children; protecting yourself and stay aware; being safe and seen; keeping control of your dog; and reporting any hazards.

“Following the steps above will go a long way to ensuring the pathway experience is a pleasant and safe one for all, so everyone can enjoy our piece of paradise,” Mayor Findley said.
