Help name Shoalhaven’s newest road

Far North Collector Road Network has reached a major milestone with foundations for all four new bridges in place, including the 108-metre-long bridge over Bomaderry Creek and floodplain.
The works are part of the $32.8 million Australian Government funded project to connect Illaroo Road in North Nowra, with Moss Vale Road in Cambewarra.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley said “I’m really excited to see the road network take shape after so much planning. The vision is coming to life, and this brings us to the next project phase – what should we name this new road?”
“We want the community’s say on the name of Shoalhaven’s newest major road, so get your thinking caps on and let us know your great ideas.”
“Submissions for the road should consider Aboriginal significance, local flora and fauna or history. We’d love to see meaningful suggestions that reflect our rich local culture,” said Mayor Findley.
In addition to the road naming, the Nowra Local Aboriginal Land Council (NLALC) will be involved in naming the bridge that crosses Bomaderry Creek.
The Bomaderry Creek area is a site of importance with evidence of Aboriginal heritage unearthed during archaeological investigations for the project.
Planning for the Far North Collector Road Network has involved comprehensive Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessments and Council continues to work with NLALC on how to best acknowledge and respect the cultural significance of the site.
Along with naming the bridge, interpretive signage near the creek and the repatriation of the artefacts is also planned.
The community has until Sunday 16 October to submit their road name suggestions.
