Shoalhaven City Council is reviewing their Disability Inclusion Action Plan. Council has launched a survey asking the community  to review the region’s commitment in building an inclusive and accessible Shoalhaven..

The Disability Inclusion Action Plan outlines what actions Council will take to improve accessibility and the overall quality of life for people living with disability in the Shoalhaven.

Community members are invited to participate in the review by completing a survey or attending  community consultation workshops.

Community feedback will help shape the development of Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan for 2021-25.

The survey, which is now open, asks people to review the region’s commitment in building an inclusive and accessible community.

Council provides accessible ways to complete the survey, including online, in person at Council’s Administration Building in Nowra or Ulladulla or by phone on 4429 3111. The survey will close on Friday 9 July 2021.

People can also attend  community consultation workshops. These will be held in locations across the Shoalhaven and provides a face-to-face opportunity for community members to provide input. Please see below for dates, times and locations and for details of how to book into a workshop.

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley said, “the Disability Inclusion Action Plan aims to ensure that people with disability enjoy the same opportunities and benefits of living and working in the Shoalhaven as everyone else”.

“The Plan is based on the social justice principles of equity, access, connection and participation and recognises the rights of people with disability as set out in the United Nations convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities,” Clr Findley said.

“We encourage people with disability, carers and business and organisations who live and support people with a disability to get involved and take the survey or attend one of the focus groups to have their say.”

“Family members, carers, service providers and community members are all encouraged to attend the focus groups or fill out the survey available on Council’s website.”

“We need your feedback to create an actionable plan that supports all members of our community.”

Community consultation workshops will be held at the following locations:

  • Nowra: Nowra Library, 10 Berry Street, Nowra on Thursday 3 June: 1.30pm - 2.30pm and 5.00pm - 6.00pm.
