New Conservation Zones to Replace Existing Environmental Zones

Shoalhaven City Council is advising landowners of the State-wide renaming of environmental zones to conservation zones in certain local environmental plans.  

Shoalhaven City Council Director of City Futures Gordon Clark said the renaming by the NSW Government is essentially just a change in technical terminology and makes no change to land usage.  

“The renaming of environment zones to conservation zones will take place in the NSW Government's Standard Instrument - Principal Local Environmental Plan,” Mr Clark said.  

This change will flow through to all standardised local environmental plans that are in place across New South Wales, including Shoalhaven Local Environmental Plan 2014 and Shoalhaven Local Environmental Plan (Jerberra Estate) 2014.  

“The new zone name does not change what uses can be carried out on the land. The change is purely administrative and of the name only. The objectives and land use tables remain the same across all relevant zones. Only the prefix and zone category are changing,” Mr Clark stated.
