Council receives top honour at Planning Institute Award night

Shoalhaven City Council has received multiple awards at the Planning Institute of Australia NSW Division Planning Excellence Awards held in Sydney last week.

The President’s Award, the highest honour on the night, was received in recognition of Shoalhaven City Council Contributions Plan 2010. Council had earlier received the Improving Planning Processes and Practices Award in recognition of the Contributions Plan.

Council, in partnership with consultants Arup and Hill PDA, also received the Best Planning Ideas Award for the Nowra CBD Master Plan.

Council’s Contributions Plan 2010 is a unique, interactive website which has been designed to be user friendly and to streamline internal processes regarding infrastructure planning and delivery.

The innovative website allows community members, developers and Council staff to easily access information on the required levels of infrastructure and the calculation of contributions for all new land developments.

Director of Strategic Planning and Infrastructure, Peter Adams said the President’s Award was a significant planning award judged by the industry and profession saying it was tremendous recognition for the development of an extremely innovative and unique website.

“Shoalhaven Contributions Plan 2010 creates a precedent in providing up to date, easy and accessible information on the calculation of contributions for any new development,” said Mr Adams.

“This program has taken an extremely complex planning instrument and enabled it to be accessed and understood by the entire community.

“Infrastructure funding, coordination and delivery is one of the extremely important issues facing local government. The Award also recognises the streamlining of internal processes for infrastructure planning and delivery.”

“I would like to congratulate Council’s Strategic Planning and Infrastructure staff and support staff from Information Technology for their hard work on this project and the richly deserved recognition.”

The Shoalhaven Contributions Plan 2010 is now eligible for consideration at the National level at next year’s Awards.
