RID Community Champions is an innovative educational program pioneered by Shoalhaven City Council Rangers aiming to prevent illegal rubbish dumping by motivating and educating the community at a grassroots level.
Shoalhaven City Council launched the program in 2016, inviting sporting clubs from across the Shoalhaven to apply for the program, with the following three clubs selected to participate as finalists:
- Shoalhaven Mariners Baseball Club
- Bay and Basin Cricket Club
- Mollymook Surf Life Saving Club
The three clubs campaigned for seven weeks to educated and motivate their local communities to Report Illegal Dumping.
Mollymook Surf Life Saving Club was awarded as having the most effective campaign and was rewarded with $5,000 worth of equipment for their club. The two runner up clubs, Shoalhaven Mariners Baseball Club and Bay and Basin Cricket Club, each received $2,500 worth of equipment.
