Council is mobilising to Lake Tabourie to undertake preparatory works ahead of heavy rainfall forecasts in anticipation of manually opening the entrance once it reaches trigger levels.

From late this afternoon it is expected that the water level at Tabourie Lake will exceed 1m AHD* and likely reach 1.3m AHD (the Planned Opening Level) overnight.

Following direct consultation with NSW Crown Lands, Council will pre-emptively lower the Tabourie Lake entrance berm (currently higher than the Planned Opening Level) to a level between 1m AHD and 1.3m AHD later this afternoon.

Works are subject to the safety of the machinery operators and the community is reminded to keep a safe distance from operations. Once opened, people are asked to stay away from the edges of the channel and eroding banks as these areas are very unstable and unsafe.

Works will be undertaken in accordance with Councils Powers of entry under s.191 of the Local Government Act and in accordance with the Tabourie Lake Entrance Management Policy.

As the lead agency in the response to floods and storms, the community is reminded to seek news and updates from the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) Home | NSW State Emergency Service
