About the project

Investigations commenced in 2020 to improve pedestrian and vehicular safety by reducing speeds primarily relating to pedestrian-vehicular interactions. Road safety audits and traffic assessments have been undertaken to develop the required infrastructure improvements which include the following proposed works along Elizabeth Drive:

  • Berry Street – Pedestrian Refuge with associated footpath
  • Minerva Avenue – Roundabout and pedestrian refuge
  • Plantation Point Parade and Frederick Street – Pedestrian Refuge.

Concept plans were prepared for each project.

The network improvements identified, allow Council to reduce the potential for accidents, increasing traffic flow, both on and off-peak, and pedestrian-vehicular interactions whilst also creating a low-speed environment.

Council also has other projects identified for the Vincentia area that ties into the proactive improvements, including:

  • The extension of the footpath path from Jervis Street to Frederick Street
  • Additional footpath adjacent Vincentia Public School in George Caley Place
  • Accessible beach access ramp to Collingwood Beach at Bayswater Street
  • Various line marking upgrades and maintenance works

The investigations from 2020 were the result of concerns raised by the community regarding vehicular speeding non-compliance and difficulties crossing and the general speed environment. A Road Safety Audit was commissioned, and the recommendations have formed the concepts plans and designs for the infrastructure as part of future grant proposals and consultation.
