Shoalhaven Libraries will be hosting a special author talk with renowned Barrister, Mark Tedeschi at the Nowra library this Saturday 28 November from 1pm.
Mr Tedeschi will be providing insights and answering questions regarding his new book, Kidnapped, telling the story of Australia’s only known kidnapping of a child for ransom.
Eight year old Graeme Thorne was kidnapped on his way to school in 1960 only weeks after his parent’s won a substantial amount of money in the Opera House Lottery.
Mayor, Joanna Gash said Kidnapped outlines the mindset of the perpetrator, Stephen Bradley, the police investigation that took place and the media storm the event created.
“Mark Tedeschi brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the retelling of one of the most harrowing and gripping true crimes in Australia’s history,” said Clr Gash.
“Having worked as a barrister and Crown Prosecutor for over 35 years before becoming a writer, Mr Tedeschi has appeared in some of the Country’s most high profile criminal cases.
“Kidnapping retells the story of a true crime drama that shocked a nation.”
“The book outlines why Stephen Bradley was a most unlikely kidnapper and how his greed saw him cast aside any sympathy for his victim and made him take brazen risks.”
“Mr Tedeschi also describes the innovative police techniques that were used to locate the kidnapper and how they have now become commonplace within forensic science in this day and age.”
“I would certainly encourage local residents to take advantage of the upcoming author talk with Mark Tedeschi and learn more about the story behind the kidnapping of Graeme Thorne.”
Bookings are essential and can be made by phoning 4429 3710.
