March 02, 2012
Shoalhaven City Council is reminding participants in this Sunday’s Clean Up Australia Day event to remain cautious when cleaning up around rivers, creeks and waterways.
With heavy rain forecasted to continue across the weekend residents are again being asked to prepare for localised flooding in some areas.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Paul Green said it was important to remember that resident’s are able to postpone planned Clean Up Australia Day activities as a result of bad weather.
“Residents concerned with the ongoing wet weather are able to reschedule their planned clean up activities for another date,” said Clr Green.
“It is extremely important that any residents choosing to take part in the scheduled clean up this Sunday remain extremely cautious when in close proximity to local waterways, flood affected areas or busy roads.
“All residents taking part in the clean up should check with the SES prior to cleaning near a creek, river, stream or waterway.”
“It is important to remember that flood water can rise extremely quickly and often without warning.”
