Chapel

SMGLC Chapel

The Shoalhaven Memorial Gardens and Lawn Cemetery Chapel in Worrigee, is located within a peaceful bushland setting. It offers comfortable seating indoors for up to 80 adults and standing room for an additional 20. To accommodate a larger service, outdoor seating for approximately 100, under covered pergolas and standing room in the open are also available. This includes audio visual facilities and visibility to the Chapel. Live streaming of the service is available on request, for those unable to attend.

Concierge services are provided on the day to assist Funeral Directors, event organisers and attendees. First aid trained staff are also available whenever a service is held in the Chapel.

Booking

Service and Timing

Bookings are for periods of 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes. As an example, a 60 minute booking is managed as follows:

If you are planning a religious service, Returned Services service, a media presentation and pieces of music or a number of eulogies, it is sensible to book the Chapel for 90 minutes or more so that the service is not rushed.

More extensive services may be booked for longer periods by arrangement.

Prior to the Service

At least one working day prior to the service, please provide Shoalhaven Bereavement Services with:

  • Any multimedia files with instructions on when items should be played
  • Notification of special requests or special needs requirements

Leading up to the service, please also let Bereavement Services know if the Chapel’s standard seating capacity will be exceeded.

Audio Visual Information

SMGLC Inside Chapel

The Chapel features a full range of multimedia equipment, including a hearing aid loop, public address system and large format plasma screens to display video slide shows.

Digital multimedia files (video and audio) need to be with the Concierge at least one business day before the service. This allows for thorough checking to minimise mishaps on the day. A link to a Cloud upload service can be provided by contacting Shoalhaven Bereavement Services office.

The media playlist, clearly written out with instructions on when each item is to be played, is to be given to the Concierge prior to the service.

Review the Multimedia Guidelines for further information.

Live Streaming and Recordings

Chapel services are recorded and can be purchased as a USB or uploaded to a private viewing channel by the Applicant through the Shoalhaven Bereavement Services office. Videos are compiled from two cameras:

  • one looking out over the chapel towards the lectern and catafalque area, and
  • the other showing close ups of the speakers.

If a video or slideshow was displayed during the service it will have been incorporated into the video recording. Recordings are held in archives for 12 months after the service.

Chapel services can also be live streamed, subject to available transmission signal on the day. To ensure privacy, a link is provided to the Applicant for the service prior to the day, so that they can choose who to give the link to.

Guidelines for the day

Arrival:

  • Funeral Directors are to arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled service and any mandatory forms should be handed to the Chapel Concierge.
  • Hearses for cremation services should enter the Chapel driveway from the eastern side. For burial services where a coffin will be transferred from the Chapel to the hearse after the service, they should enter from the west.
  • Attendees should allow a Concierge to direct them to the Chapel on arrival.
  • Vehicles transporting people with limited mobility are permitted to use the Chapel driveway to set down and pick up passengers but are then to be parked in a parking bay.

Departure:

  • Following the service, your Funeral Director will assist in ushering those who have attended the service to the condolence area on the grounds in front of the Reflections Café, to allow the Chapel to be prepared for another service.
  • For cremation services, if any items are to be recovered from the coffin after the catafalque curtain has closed, please liaise with the Concierge and/or Funeral Director.
