Tallwood Avenue and Bannister Head Road Intersection

  • Project StatusIn progress

The $330,000 project proposes to install a single lane roundabout including all traffic calming, line marking, lighting, signage, and pedestrian improvements, at the intersection of Bannister Head Road and Tallwood Avenue, Mollymook, improving safety for motorists and pedestrians alike.

The project was nominated as a proactive proposal, following completion of a formal road safety audit that has supported the improvements proposed.

Other traffic calming measures were considered, however will not address the traffic conflicts and sight constraints at the intersection, and a favourable location is unlikely given the residential nature of the area and perceived adverse noise impacts associated with speed control devices. AUSTROADS (best practice traffic management and road design guidelines) recognise roundabouts as the preferred method of traffic calming.
