Shoalhaven City Council is undertaking works in stages between October 2020 and March 2021 to prepare for the prestigious L’Étape Cycling event.

The L’Étape Cycling event will be held on 19-22 March 2021 with part of the route crossing through the Shoalhaven region. The 2020 L’Étape event was postponed due to COVID-19. Access more information about the L’Étape event via our Get Involved website.

Tree Management and Road Works to improve road safety and ride quality along the route within the municipality will occur on Cambewarra Lookout Rd - Cambewarra Mountain, Tourist Rd - Beaumont and Bellawongarah and Kangaroo Valley Rd - Berry Mountain.

Access to local roads may be closed to the public during works. Residents, school bus service and emergency services may be permitted under traffic control. Alternative routes, diversions and temporary total road closures may be used. Contractors engaged by Council to complete the work will have traffic controls in place. Minor delays are expected whilst traffic controls are in place.

The works being undertaken by Council also form part of its risk management maintenance schedule and are in response to requests from residents within the area for maintenance works.

The tree management works involve removing dead or dying trees, acacias in decline and deadwood over the roads and the road repair works involve fixing up the “patchwork quilt” in dangerous locations. Recent events where a eucalypt damaged by a vehicle, only reinforce the need for Council to be vigilant with its risk management works.

The L’Etape Cycling event provides an opportunity to showcase the Shoalhaven, bringing tourism and investment to the region. This is vital due to the recent impact of COVID-19 restrictions on the local economy.

 Tree management

  • Clearing of vegetation overhanging the road to a minimum height clearance of 5 metres
