Shoalhaven City Council has been working with the Hyams Beach Villagers Association, Community Consultative Body (HBVA CCB) and other community and business representatives on options to improve the impacts of high traffic and visitor numbers to Hyams Beach during peak times.

Significant volumes of tourists visit Hyams Beach to enjoy the white sands of Jervis Bay and the village's natural bush setting.

The only vehicular access to the village is via Booderee Avenue, a small two-lane, two-way road. Booderee Avenue intersects Naval College Road, an arterial road which links Hyams Beach to other towns and villages in the Bay and Basin area.

The high volumes of vehicular and pedestrian traffic on Booderee Avenue and Naval College Road during peak times present a safety risk to residents and visitors. As Hyams Beach was never designed to be a high traffic area, there are a number of upgrades to parking and footpaths under consideration that are critical to keeping residents and visitors safe now and into the future.
