About the project

The construction of the single lane concrete bridge, and associated works, to replace the existing timber bridge along Bundewallah Road over Chisholm’s Creek, Bundewallah is partly funded by Shoalhaven City Council and by TfNSW under the NSW Fixing Country Bridges program.

Project updates

  • 20/05/2023 - Bridge and road work is nearing completion.
  • 13/05/2023- Updated 17/05/2023 - Subject to suitable conditions, it is proposed to place the final asphalt wearing surface on Thursday 18th May 2023. This will involve closing Bundewallah road for four and a half hours from around 9:15am until around 1:45pm. Refer Related Documents

  • 09/05/2023 - There will be a brief road closure scheduled for 8.30am to 11am for bitumen sealing work.

  •  08/05/2023 -  After several weeks of suffering the effects of wet weather and subsequent need to undertake repair work, Bundewallah Road in the vicinity of the bridge site will be closed for up to 3 ½ hours on Tuesday morning 9th May 8.30am until 11am to allow bitumen sealing works to be undertaken. Within the next few weeks, the final asphalt work, crash barriers, line marking and hydro seeding will be undertaken.

  • 25/03/2023 - Roadway approach development is currently well along its way. In order to be ready for bitumen sealing on 3 March, weather allowing, the last layer of road base will be laid & compacted throughout the course of the next week. The last layer of asphalt will be poured in the coming weeks, followed by the installation of the crash barriers, line marking and clean up.

  • 12/02/2023 - It is proposed to remove the temporary ex-army Beaver Bridge, commencing at approximately 11am on Thursday 12th January 2023 The road will be closed in the vicinity of the bridge to allow a large crane to be positioned to load the temporary bridge onto semi-trailer trucks. Please plan to avoid travelling along this section of road between 11am & 2pm. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation

  • 03/01/2023 - Before Christmas, concrete was poured for the "approach slabs" on either side of the bridge deck. The road work can start once the contractor has a well-deserved vacation and the concrete has had enough time to fully set.
  • 21/11/2022 - Three 900mm diameter round piers were bored into the ground to reach solid rock. These piers will support the concrete abutment (wall) on the eastern bridge approach. The pier holes were protected with temporary steel casing to prevent the soil from collapsing before placing concrete.
  • 02/11/2022 - Work commenced.  Our aims to be completed by the end of January 2023, weather permitting. 13/11/2022 - The temporary bypass road up to the temporary bridge has now been completed. This will allow the existing timber bridge to be demolished next week and piling support for the new bridge to be installed.
  • 25/11/2022 - The temporary bridge sidetrack has been completed, and the old timber bridge has been demolished, with some timber finding a new home. Abutment excavation is currently underway, and we expect the bored and piled concrete foundation to be completed this week.
