Shoalhaven City Council has issued advice that water quality in popular swimming areas throughout the Shoalhaven is suitable for swimming with results of sampling showing the water quality is good.
Water sampling was conducted in locations from Lake Tabourie through to Sussex Inlet that were affected by power outages which may have impacted on sewer pump stations during the Currowan and Tianjara fires.
Council has also continued its summer round of sampling as part of the annual Beachwatch program from Shoalhaven Heads to Merry Beach. Results have shown that these beaches are also showing good water quality.
The following sites are not suitable for swimming at this time:
- Ulladulla Harbour and Millards Creek
- Racecourse Creek
- Blackwater Creek and Mollymooke Farm Creek
- Pattimores Lagoon - Conjola
Council is aware of community concerns about water quality and the impacts of not only power outages and potential pump station overflow but also contamination from debris and ash that has been experienced at some beaches.
We will continue to sample a range of locations in the Shoalhaven and ensure the community will continue to be updated if there are beaches or estuaries that are of concern.
