The Emergency Operations Centre is working closely with the RFS to support our community, following yesterdays significant fire event and the ongoing fire impact of the Currowan Fire.
All agencies currently have assessment teams on the ground and are working hard to restore power, communications and access for our community.
Teams are currently assessing the impacts of the fire on homes and communities.
There are significant resources that have been deployed to support the community in the impacted area.
Building Impact Assessments
A multi-agency building assessment team is currently assessing the highly impacted areas, starting at Conjola. They are identifying impacted structures and providing information back to the EOC and State Emergency Operations.
The Princes Highway has been assessed and remains closed from south of Jervis Bay Road to Milton. Transport NSW crews and the SES are on site working to combat tree fall and other damage to the road.
The Highway has also been opened from Ulladulla down to Batemans Bay. The highway remains closed south of Batemans Bay.
Helicopter assessments of the power supply are currently being undertaken. This is to identify burnt power poles and to provide information to crews to support power restoration.
Assessments of communications towers are being made and generators provided to assist in power outages.
Food and Fuel
Work is occurring on providing power to fuel stations to allow for fuel to be restored in impacted areas.
The EOC is aware of food supplies and working to restore access as soon as possible to provide relief to the community
Sewerage and Water
Shoalhaven Water is supplying generators and pump out tankers to impacts areas and resources are being escorted into impacted areas.
Tourism and Visitors to the area
We love our beautiful area and we love you visiting however we have a number of infrastructure issues that are being resolved and there remain ongoing significant fire impacts. Additional tourists put significant strain on emergency services.
There are a number of caravan parks that are closed and many small coastal villages have been isolated. Visitors in impacted areas are being asked to return home when it is safe to do so.
Please if you do not need to be here, reconsider your travel plans and come back at a time when we are not impacted by the fire.
Message from the EOC
The EOC is aware that there are a number of people in difficult circumstances, we are working hard to restore access and services and provide as much information as soon as possible.
We encourage our communities to show patience in these circumstances. We are well aware of the impact this fire has had on the community and we have our emergency staff, utilities and services working to restore critical needs for our towns.
