The Shoalhaven is preparing to celebrate National Recycling Week, held from 11 -17 November. This year the week will focus on ‘Busting Recycling Myths, with Shoalhaven City’s Waste team hoping to tackle confusion about recycling.
To celebrate the week, Shoalhaven City is hosting a Tip Tour at West Nowra Recycling and Waste Depot, with the aim of demystify the recycling process. The tour will take place on Saturday, 16 November with special host Wombat, Shoalhaven’s favourite environmental ambassador. Bookings are essential.
Mayor Amanda Findley is pleased to see the region embracing sustainability, “90% of Australian’s are willing recyclers however it can be confusing to know what can and cannot be recycled. The yellow bin guide, which residents will receive in their letter boxes this week, will help to dispel a few myths and help ensure only recyclable materials are placed into the yellow bin.” Clr Findley said.
“There are so many ways to recycle and it’s not always through the yellow bin - it can be really simple, easy and fun. Host a clothing swap party with your friends and come away with some great new threads; get crafty with old textiles by creating some festive bunting; and donate good quality clothing to charities
“Council’s waste and recycling initiatives such as our buyback centres, composting workshops, investment in new technologies and targeted educational resources all aim to help the Shoalhaven waste less and become more sustainable as a community.” Clr Findley said.
