Shoalhaven City Council was delighted to hear of the success of our very own Blockstars, in the International US Open Tournament at Legoland in California at the Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday, 30 July 2019.
In February this year Council resolved to offer support to the students to assist with their costs to attend the tournament.
The Blockstars are a Shoalhaven-based robotics team comprised of five students between the ages of 14 and 17 years. After taking out the National Championships in December 2018 the team was invited to represent Australian in the United States Open Tournament at Legoland.
Mayor Amanda Findley is proud of the students stating, “It is fantastic to hear the Shoalhaven’s very own Lego masters have won third place in the Robot Games in the United States,” Clr Findley said.
“Council supported the team with a $5,000 donation from Council’s unallocated donations, to assist the team in travel costs, accommodation and registration fees for the tournament.
“Council are proud to be able to assist local students in expanding their STEM-based learning whilst also representing not just the country, but the Shoalhaven.”
