Shoalhaven Celebrates 2019 NSW Seniors Festival

Shoalhaven City Council hosting NSW Seniors Festival 2019 from Wednesday, 13 February 2019 – Sunday, 24 February 2019 with the theme ‘Love your Life’, the festival celebrates older people in the community and encourages them to live active and connected lives.

NSW Seniors Festival is designed to thank, celebrate and recognise seniors for the role they play and the contributions they make to the NSW Community. Every year during NSW Seniors Festival, government, community and commercial organisations hold hundreds of events across the state, encompassing art, sport, music, entertainment, technology, recreation, health, good nutrition and much more.

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley is encouraging seniors to come along and enjoy the events.

“Seniors Festival is a great opportunity to meet new people in the community.,” Clr Findley said.

"Last years attendees were really excited about the variety of activities on offer and many partook in things they have never done before, it was a real joy to see their faces.

“NSW Seniors Festival has continued to grow each year since it began 59 years ago and continues to set the benchmark as the biggest event program for seniors.

“This year’s Shoalhaven calendar boasts everything from fitness classes at our Swim and Fitness Centres to technology classes at the library, a tour of our Waste and Recycling Centres or Painting workshops at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery Nowra.

“For the more adventurous Council are hosting an Aboriginal Cultural tour to Booderee National Park Botanical Gardens. This free event will take place on Friday, 22 February, commencing at 9 am and returning to Nowra at 2 pm. Attendees will enjoy a presentation about traditional bush tucker, explore the medicinal uses of plants and learn about the long association that Aboriginal people have with the Jervis Bay area and the plants of south-eastern Australia.”
