Plastic Pollution on Local Beaches

Staff from both Shoalhaven City Council and the Roads and Maritime Service are monitoring the beaches off Cunjurong Point, Conjola and Narrawallee due to reports of plastic straw like offcuts washing up on these beaches.

At this time, very small sporadic patches of this plastic have been found on the high water lines at Cunjurong Point and Narrawallee beach.

It is requested that if anyone in the community comes across any rubbish on our beaches that they pick it up, to help reduce the well know impacts on both sea life and shorebirds alike.

Many thanks to groups such as Surfrider Foundation - South Coast,Take 3 for Shoalhaven, Plastic Free South Coast - NSW and the Shoalhaven Marine Conservation Group for continually cleaning up rubbish found on our beaches.

With the coming southerly winds, if you notice large quantities of this plastic washing ashore please contact Council on 4429 3111. Council clean up crews are on stand by.
