Have your say on Paringa Park

Shoalhaven City Council is reminding the community that Nowra’s Paringa Park Masterplan is currently on exhibition with the aim of creating a dynamic non-motorised water sports hub for users of the Shoalhaven River.

To facilitate an improved and consolidated facility for these groups, Council, in conjunction with water sport groups, has been investigating the development of a water sports hub and building at Paringa Park on Scenic Drive in close proximity to the river. The plan includes consolidated facilities including a multipurpose building and supporting facilities such as pontoons, ramps, access path, extra parking, lighting and a fishing platform viewing deck.

A number of non-motorised water craft user groups would benefit from a multipurpose hub such as sailing, Water Dragons, rowing and Sea Scouts who currently access the Shoalhaven River and utilise existing areas such as Paringa Park and Riverside Park.  Currently these users have multiple storage facilities to enable their water sports and all have common requirements such as the need to be close to water access and the separation from motor craft.

To co-ordinate site planning and best utilisation of resources, a draft Masterplan has been prepared to ensure Paringa Park can cater to a wide range of water craft user groups and that the area becomes a key recreational and sporting hub on the river.

The community can provide feedback on Council’s online community engagement platform “Get Involved” at http://getinvolved.shoalhaven.nsw.gov.au/paringa-park until 28 February 2017.  Council will continue to work with external stakeholders during and after the exhibition period to engage with the community on this project that aims to activate the riverside.
