Temporary changes to Council’s Waste Depot operations

Shoalhaven City Council manages 10 waste facilities across the Shoalhaven. The transfer station operations, transportation of the waste and Buy Back Centres at these facilities has been managed on Council’s behalf by a subcontractor, Subloos Pty Ltd.

Director of Assets and Works, Ben Stewart said Council has been working with all levels of management at Subloos over recent months to assist them in meeting their obligations under the contract, however, on Monday 8 February the company appointed Administrators.

“Council has been advised by the Administrator that the company ceased to trade in the Shoalhaven as of close of business on Tuesday 9 February,” said Mr Stewart.

“Unfortunately, this will cause some short term interruption for customers of the waste facilities this weekend.”

Regular kerbside bin collection services (Red and Yellow Bins) will not be impacted.

“From Friday 12 February to Thursday 18 February 2016 only the three main waste facilities at Ulladulla, Huskisson and West Nowra will be open for business.”

“This means, the waste transfer stations at Kangaroo Valley, Berry, Callala, Bendalong, Sussex Inlet, Lake Conjola and Kioloa will be closed until Friday 19 February.”

“Normal operating hours will resume again at all sites from Friday 19 February.”

Residents wishing to dispose of waste during this period are advised to take their material for disposal to either West Nowra, Huskisson or Ulladulla, all of which are still open 7 days.

Buy Back Centres will temporarily close at all sites and will re-open on Friday 19 February at Ulladulla, Huskisson and West Nowra only.  Buy Back centres will remain closed at the smaller sites until further notice.

Mr Stewart said that Council is reviewing employment opportunities that may be available to Subloos staff as Council continues to deliver these services.

Residents who have already booked a green or bulky waste pick up should contact Council’s Waste Services Team on 4429 3129 to confirm the details. Residents who require this service can also contact Council on this number to arrange a pickup.
