Council to undertake mechanical opening of Shoalhaven Heads
June 25, 2013
Shoalhaven City Council will undertake a mechanical opening of the Shoalhaven Heads this afternoon.
The planned opening follows the Bureau of Meteorology’s latest forecast of a 3m AHD peak of the Shoalhaven River at 11pm tonight.
The predicted 3m peak is enough to trigger a mechanical opening under Council’s Shoalhaven River Entrance Management Plan.
Council has begun marking the site this morning and machinery has commenced the excavation process with a final breach to the ocean expected to be achieved later this afternoon.
Council asks residents not to enter the worksite during this period with the safety of both the community and machine operators obviously paramount.
Despite the entrance being breached the risk of flood remains with Council advising residents to remain mindful to any potential risks.
