Funding to improve accident Black Spots

Shoalhaven City Council accepted a $887,000 funding grant from the Roads and Traffic Authority at last night’s Council meeting.
The funding will allow the construction of three new projects under the Federal Governments’ Nation Building Black Spot Program.
The location and details of the new projects include –
• Forest Rd, Comberton ($434,000)
Multiple works to be undertaken along Forest Road including installation of guardrail (multiple locations), sign posting and delineation improvements including new raised profile edge lines, the clearing of vegetation and creation of a new overtaking zone.
• Greenwell Point Road, Greenwell Point ($249,000)
The clearing of vegetation and road widening works along the eastern end of Greenwell Point Road.
• Bolong Road, Bomaderry ($204,000)
Vegetation clearing, installation of guardrail, and road widening works.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Paul Green thanked the RTA for the funding grant saying he was extremely pleased to see money being allocated towards the provision of safer local roads.
“This funding grant will be of tremendous benefit to all local road users after coming about as a direct response to emerging crash history in the area,” said Clr Green.
“The Black Spot Program allows Council to carry out much needed safety works on the three identified roads.”
The RTA will need to approve designs before work can commence however work on
all three projects is required to be completed by June 30 2012.
