No start date for Vincentia commercial development
February 01, 2013
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Joanna Gash has told the community that Council remains unaware as to the starting date for development of cleared land at the Vincentia crossroads.
Woolworths cleared the area in late 2011 following a decision by the Department of Planning and Infrastructure (DPI) in 2007 to allow the construction of a commercial development on the site.
Construction was expected to begin in early 2012 however Council has since been advised that Woolworths have again entered talks with the DPI and are now expected to lodge a modified proposal for a revised Stage One of the commercial development.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Joanna Gash said that the community would again have the opportunity to make submissions to the DPI once the revised proposal had been submitted.
“Many residents in the Bay and Basin area have been in contact with Council staff, Councillors and myself seeking an expected commencement date for the Vincentia commercial development,” said Clr Gash.
“I completely understand community angst regarding the commencement of this project, however given that Woolworths are set to lodge a revised proposal it does not appear likely that construction will begin in the near future.
“Council remains unaware as to when the modified application will be the subject of public exhibition however I would strongly encourage local residents to take the time to read the proposal and make a submission once it has become public.”
The proposed commercial centre will be part of the Bayswood residential development, a new residential precinct in the Bay and Basin area of the Shoalhaven.
