Mayor Gash to take part in Politician/Celebrity fishing comp

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Joanna Gash will join other Federal politicians in casting a line for charity this Sunday as part of the area’s inaugural Politician/Celebrity fishing tournament to be held at St Georges Basin.
The tournament has been created as a fun and interesting way to promote the benefits of recreational fishing while also showcasing St Georges Basin to a wider audience.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Joe Ludwig will join Shadow Minister for Regional Development and Tourism, Bob Baldwin, Tasmanian Senator Richard Colbeck and fishing Guru Jim Harnwell in taking part in the angling challenge.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Joanna Gash said she was looking forward to showing her parliamentary colleagues around St Georges Basin.
“Recreational fishing has long been one of the Country’s favourite pastimes with over five million Australian’s expected to take part in the sport over the coming year,” said Clr Gash.
“The upcoming Politician/Celebrity fishing tournament provides a fantastic opportunity to promote the Shoalhaven while raising some much needed funds for the local Surf Life Saving Clubs.
“I’m certainly looking forward to dropping a line, hopefully snagging a couple of fish and enjoying the natural beauty of St Georges Basin as part of the upcoming fishing tournament.”
All the fish caught during the tournament will be safely released back into the Basin, after having been weighed, measured and photographed.
Proceeds of the Tournament will be going to Surf Life Saving Australia and other local charities.
The inaugural Politician/Celebrity fishing tournament will be held at St Georges Basin on Sunday 3 February.
All locals and visitors are welcome to attend with fishing demonstrations, casting lessons and knot tying workshops all available.
