Shoalhaven City Council gearing up for Australia Day celebrations

Shoalhaven City Council will be joining the Nowra City Church in hosting the area’s annual Australia Day celebrations from 8am - 12pm on Saturday 26 January at the Nowra Showground.

Celebrations will continue right throughout the morning with the announcement of the Australia Day Award winners, Citizenship Ceremony and an address by 2013 Australia Day Ambassador - award winning children’s author, Libby Hathorn.

With a traditional Australian Breakfast Barbecue running from 8am other activities on offer include market stalls, mower racing, jumping castles, face painting and balloon animals.

Further to this, the day will also feature ongoing live stage entertainment, a pamper tent, horse and carriage rides as well as an animal display from the Shoalhaven Zoo.

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Joanna Gash encouraged local residents to get down to Nowra Showground and take part in what was shaping us a fantastic morning’s entertainment.

“Australia Day is such a special date on the Australian calendar, a time when the community can gather as one and celebrate everything that’s great about living in our wonderful Country,” said Clr Gash.

“The Nowra Showground will play host to a huge morning of entertainment from 8am on Australia Day with a host of different activities on offer for the entire family.

“One of the highlights of the day will certainly be the Citizenship Ceremony which will see over 20 local residents making the commitment to become Australian citizens.”

“It is a tremendous honour to play a small part in this ceremony and to be able to watch our newest citizens pledge their allegiance to the Country on Australia Day.”

“I would certainly encourage all local residents to come down and take advantage of the free entertainment and help celebrate being part of the greatest Country on earth.”

The area’s annual Australia Day celebrations will take place from 8am - 12pm on Saturday 26 January at the Nowra Showground.

The announcement of the Australia Day Award winners and Citizenship Ceremony will take place from 10am.
