North Head Bushcare Group to host Open Day
July 18, 2011
The North Head Bushcare Group will be hosting a guided tour of the iconic Ulladulla Headland on Friday 22 July as part of their upcoming open day.
An extremely popular recreational space, the North Head Bushcare group work to regenerate the native bushland and keep the headland free from rubbish.
With the group consisting of only a small band of volunteers, North Head Bushcare Coordinator, Peter Loyd is hoping the open day will help attract new members.
“We really need help with the on-going work of cleaning up on and around North Head,” said Mr Loyd.
“The group also needs a hand with the continuing regeneration work following the fire two years ago.
“The headland has unique patches of heath vegetation that has a high diversity of local coastal species growing on it which make the headland quite special in regard to the region’s vegetation.”
“The recent burn on the headland has assisted in the regeneration of much of these heath species but some assistance is needed in removing weeds and monitoring the regeneration.”
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Paul Green is encouraging residents in the Ulladulla – Milton area to become involved in the project saying Bushcare groups carry out vital regeneration work right throughout the City.
“North Head is an extremely popular recreational area with locals using the headland for fitness, fishing and relaxation purposes,” said Clr Green.
“The local Bushcare group are doing a fantastic job in working hard to keep the area natural and pristine despite their limited numbers.
“I would encourage all residents with an interest in North Head or regeneration works to get along to the upcoming open day and consider joining what is a very valuable organisation.”
